Caos Cine Launches at Morelia Fest with "The Huntress"

A dynamic new distribution company, Caos Cine, has emerged on the Mexican cinematic landscape, making its inaugural appearance at the Morelia Film Festival (FICM). Founded by Regina Serratos and Eduardo Diaz Casanova, the firm announced its first acquisition: "The Huntress." This film, Susanne Andrews Correa's debut feature, is set for its Mexican premiere today, October 19, at the festival, where it is also competing for an award.

Eduardo Diaz Casanova emphasized Caos Cine's mission to revolutionize the industry by offering filmmakers tailored distribution strategies and dedicated attention for their projects. Diaz Casanova, who also leads Peninsula Films & Entertainment with his brother Gabriel, views this venture as a catalyst for new opportunities in film distribution. The acquired film, "The Huntress," features Adriana Paz, who previously earned a Best Actress award at Cannes in 2024 for her role in "Emilia Pérez." This movie is the first Latin American production to be selected for the Sundance Film Festival in 2026 and is based on real-life events, depicting Paz as Luz, a mother in Ciudad Juárez who seeks to protect her 14-year-old daughter and other young factory workers from a serial rapist.

The creation of "The Huntress" involved extensive research by Andrews Correa, who conducted numerous visits to Ciudad Juárez starting in 2018. During her time there, she engaged with a diverse group of individuals, including factory workers, journalists, filmmakers, activists, psychologists, social workers, public officials, and mothers of missing women. This deep immersion allowed her to portray the complex realities of the city with sensitivity and nuance. Filmed in both Ciudad Juárez and Mexico City, "The Huntress" was a collaborative effort between Zafiro Cinema, established by Gabriela Maire and Edher Campos, and the U.S.-based company The Population, led by Mynette Louie. The Morelia Film Festival, where the film is making its debut, commenced on October 16 and is scheduled to conclude on October 25.

The emergence of Caos Cine signifies a fresh approach to film distribution, focusing on the unique needs of each film and ensuring that impactful stories reach a broader audience. "The Huntress" exemplifies this commitment by shedding light on critical social issues through compelling storytelling. Such endeavors not only enrich the cultural landscape but also empower filmmakers to tackle challenging themes, fostering a more inclusive and reflective cinematic world.
